In admiration of Bertie
I watched New Zealand absolutely bully Romania in the Rugby World Cup yesterday. What was interesting was how they scored their first two tries; both times, the All Blacks had made errors or were put under pressure by their opponents and were forced to think quickly and play by instinct, ultimately turning the situation to their advantage. It reminded me a lot of Bertie Ahern when the current scandal first came to light about six months ago. Seemingly on the back foot, he falls back on his natural talents (a bit of fancy footwork in front of Brian Dobson), and when the opinion polls came out, he had left the opposition in the dust just when they thought they had hold of him. Scintillating play.
